The Director General of the Société de Gestion des Stocks Pétroliers de Côte d'Ivoire (GESTOCI), Ibrahima Doumbia, and his deputy, Nina Keïta, took part, alongside the Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energies, Abdourahmane Cissé, at the official launch of construction work for the new A22 sphere, with a capacity of 2,000 tonnes. It was Tuesday, June 02, 2020 at the Abidjan-Vridi Oil Terminal (TPAV).
On this occasion, General Manager Ibrahima Doumbia, announced that the new A22 sphere will increase the availability of butane gas and increase the current storage capacity from 4,000 tonnes to 6,000 tonnes for the benefit of Ivorian households. It will be delivered in February 2021 for an investment cost of 4 billion FCFA. This will help alleviate the shortage and disruption in the supply of butane gas to homes.

"Today, with the construction of the new 2,000-ton A22 sphere, our butane gas storage capacities will increase from 4,000 tonnes to 6,000 tonnes from February 2021," he said.

If he recognizes that with regard to butane gas, the agents of GESTOCI often worked on a just-in-time basis due to the insufficient storage capacity, Ibrahima Doumbia declared that it is the whole Gestoci which is particularly happy the construction of the new sphere which will undoubtedly reduce their stress, as operators.
The Director General recalled that when Gestoci was created in 1983, the butane gas storage capacity was 2,000 tonnes, divided into two spheres of 1,000 tonnes. Then under his direction in 2013 with the entry into service of the A21 of 2,000 tonnes, explained Ibrahima Doumbia, the storage capacities increased to 4,000 tonnes.
In the presence of his minister, Ibrahima Doumbia reaffirmed the ambition of the Directorate General to achieve by 2025, with the support of the supervisory authority, the construction of a 4,000-ton sphere at the Abidjan depot, with a view to to increase the overall storage capacity of butane gas to 10,000 tonnes, to take account of the increasing level of consumption.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, General Management and all the staff, he expressed his infinite gratitude to the Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energy, Mr. Abdourahmane Cissé for his precious and constant daily support.
For his part, Minister Abdourahmane Cissé expressed his satisfaction with the quality of the work accomplished by the Director General of GESTOCI, Ibrahima Doumbia, the Deputy Director General, Nina Keïta, and all the staff to bring Côte d'Ivoire sheltered from any disruption and / or crisis in the supply of oil and gas products.
He also took the opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of the Ivorian government to stand alongside the leaders of GESTOCI by providing them with the necessary support. This is to make Côte d'Ivoire an oil and gas sub-regional hub.
Thanks to the numerous investments made by the government both in Abidjan and in the interior of the country, the butane gas storage capacities were increased from 9,800 tonnes in 2012 to around 20,000 tonnes in 2019. While gas consumption butane by the Ivorian populations was multiplied by 2.5 between 2012 and 2019, going from 154,000 tonnes to 380,000 tonnes.
In Ivory Coast, butane gas is mainly used for domestic purposes.
